Using raster sprites (legacy)

When adding custom icons, it’s also possible to upload a pre-generated sprite. This is useful if you have icons created in a legacy tool (like Spreet) or simply want to import sprites from an older map and don’t want to re-create the icons individually.

We support sprite upload in both standard raster and modern SDF formats. Note the following:

  • You must upload two files: sprite@2x.png and sprite@2x.json. They must be named exactly as shown.
  • If the icons inside are mixed format (some simple raster, some SDF), the sprite will be split into two separate icon sets.
  • After upload, you can edit your set, including adding new icons to it. Note the requirements and size limits.

Info

A standard raster sprite doesn’t support icon styling. To be able to customize icons in your maps as needed, prepare them individually in vector format.
